Relaxation,  Rest,  Vacation

2 Jobs are for 2 People

I finally took some time off over the weekend (sort of). I really enjoyed myself and found it quite relaxing. In a previous post, I discussed various reasons that people don’t take vacations. For example, fear that you will come back to work that has piled up while we’re gone. While that may be a legitimate fear, my experience suggests that the pros of taking a vacation and getting proper rest and restoration outweighs any thing that you could think of that would prevent you from taking a proper vacation. I did return to work to find that tasks started by others had been saved for my return. I’ll admit, it is a nuisance and makes me question how supportive co-workers really are. Nonetheless, vacations are so important and I’ll continue to take them despite whatever concerns I have about not taking them.

I have a joke for you!  How many people does it take to work two different jobs? The answer… two jobs are for two people.  I do recognize and understand the need for many people to work more than one job.  In 2017, I know several people (including myself) who have side hustles – it’s become the standard for people trying to make it today. What’s important to understand however, is that those of us who have a primary job with a part-time job/hobby/side hustle,  are even more at risk for burnout. When you’re planning your vacation, it’s really important to take time off from all work-related activities. There is an energy that is associated with work and it is that energy that we are trying to shift. We are no longer in work mode but we are in relaxation mode which should be free of stress and worry. Please don’t take a “task oriented” vacation. When you’re overworked and stressed out, your family members can tell. Spare your children and loved ones from suffering through your attitude as a result of being overworked and take a damn vacation. Our goal here is to not let work control our lives and our families.

As weary travelers, we have to be cautious not to work ourselves to death and that’s a very real thing. We have to take extra precautions to make sure we are focusing on our well-being even the little things like taking a walk in the park, reading a book, etc.

If you are someone who works multiple jobs what you do to relax? How do you take vacation time with multiple jobs?

What do you think?
