Travel,  Vacation

Taken

As I continue on this journey to travel,  I’m coming to the realization that having a travel blog means that I actually have to travel – like I have to get up and  leave my house! It’s not an issue or anything;  I go places all the time. My personal objective is to go somewhere at least once a month and I don’t want to get into the habit of not following through. I do have some fun ideas I want to try and share and I definitely want to start the process of getting my passport.

Earlier this week, the topic of dream vacations came up at work during the beloved “ice-breakers” and I proudly announce that my dream vacation had always been Jamaica. In true Sagittarian nature, I also revealed my reason for wanting to go to Jamaica – the nude beach. If you know me personally, you know that I have issues with getting nude in unfamiliar  spaces and the body and the whole — I don’t like to be touched – complex I have going on. It’s not the case now, but in my early twenties I was very much interested in visiting nude beaches in Jamaica. That of course  was a time when everything was firm and taut. Now that I’m in my mid fairly early 30s and time has turned out to be just flat out rude, I’m not sure if waddling around a nude beach is something that I would still consider.

Today I was sent a Flyer at work, something to do with 6 day/5 night, all inclusive vacation to a whole list of travel destinations for  $129 per person. It had this pitiful looking graphic and I immediately thought this was a direct pipeline to human trafficking. Like, if I call this number and actually meet up with someone to plan this vacation, I could be taken and turned into a drug addicted male prostitute hemmed up somewhere in Thailand. I am just the type to be taken (and why wouldn’t someone want to, I mean…) however, I would never fall for something as ridiculous as a $129 vacation or the $459 ones listed on their website. I am sad to say that this particular company’s Facebook page had a few hundred followers and people who actually engaged with the posts. I hope people aren’t actually falling for this type of thing and getting scammed out of money or worse. If it’s too good to be true…

I know people who swear by Groupon and Travelzoo ( I like Travelzoo) and other travel sites, but personally those all seem a little scammy to me as well, especially as a person who plans on traveling solo. That’s definitely a good conversation for a later post. I’m interested in doing some comparisons. In the meantime, I’ll keep travel local with plans to expand throughout the region.

What do you think?
