Autumn in The Valley – Time to Travel

Ah! It’s finally Fall in the Sacramento Valley, and that means it’s time to take a trip! It’s not just enough that Fall is here but the weather is changing, and that’s key! This is my absolute favorite time of the year, and quite frankly, it’s the reason I fell in love with the Sacramento Valley and remain here. The central valley in the fall is beautiful and offers respite to the scorching summers we’ve grown accustomed to.

The summers here can be quite brutal and uncomfortable well through September, but once October hits, the magic starts. It is the crisp, cooler mornings followed by the warmth of the day and the chilled evenings that speak to the very core of who I am. It’s like something in the air says, “Come out, come out wherever you are,” and beckons my Sag spirit anywhere else in the world other than inside my apartment.

While there is lots of farming and agriculture, Sacramento is the Farm-to-Fork capital;

there are some hidden gems and sights one must take in if coming (and I recommend you do) to this area during the fall!

American River Parkway: This 23-mile trail offers stunning river views and surrounding wildlife. Enjoy hiking, biking, or simply taking a stroll. Watch out for the rattlesnakes near any body of water in the Central Valley!

Folsom Lake State Recreation Area: Explore the beautiful Folsom Lake, perfect for boating, fishing, and camping. Don’t miss the Folsom Lake Dam, a fascinating engineering feat.

Auburn State Recreation Area: Hike through the serene forests and meadows of Auburn State Recreation Area. Enjoy stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

And for the History buffs…

Loomis Basin Railroad: Take a nostalgic train ride through the scenic Loomis Basin, a historic mining town.

Sacramento Historic City Cemetery: Discover the fascinating history of Sacramento through a visit to this historic cemetery.

El Dorado County History Museum: Learn about the rich history of El Dorado County, including its gold rush era.

There are also festivals, like the Elk Grove Festival of Trees and Oktoberfest, and a plethora of museums, dining, and wine options! If travel is in your near future and you want to explore a place you’ve never visited, consider coming to Cali! This is the perfect time of year!

Until next time, travelers!

Remember to travel more, spend less, and capture it all!
